Can you imagine a dense forest in the midst of a busy city road? Come to our Nature walk at the Ram Mula confluence and witness this serene location.
Right in the middle of the Aundh Balewadi link road, we have adopted a stretch of the river that includes the confluence of Ramnadi and Mula rivers. The walk starts at the Ramnadi, and walking by this river, we go over the typical river ecology, the stresses that happen on the urban rivers, and our responsibility as aware citizens towards this pollution.
No change is possible without people’s participation and this walk aims at doing exactly this. As the Ramnadi gets fed by the treated water from the Baner Sewage Treatment Plant, we bring to light the responsibility that lies in every individuals hands to better our rivers in the city. As Ramnadi joins Mula, we also highlight, how there is a continuance in the whole system of rivers. What we chose to do/use in our house, has long lasting effects back to our food that lands on our plates.
The last stretch of the walk through the Mula bank, shows the participants, the rich flora and fauna a typical riparian zone needs to have. They witness trees as old as 150 years and birds who have accepted this river bank as their own homes. Also as we walk through this stretch we see the amount of plastic that is thrown back to us by the river and is stuck on all the trees and shrubs on the river bank.
The realities along with the beauty of the stretch, makes this walk a must take to understand- both what we should do and what we shouldn’t do to our rivers.
